Western Maryland

Founded in 1852 as the „Baltimore, Carroll & Frederick RR Company“, the railroad served Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virgina until 1983. Later it was inherited into the Chessie System.

The first diesel locomotives hit WM’s rails in1941. Among the first purchases were a couple of Baldwin and Alco switchers, such as the VO 660 or the S-2.

While WM’s early paint schemes were dominated by a black coat, the final red-and white „Circus“ sheme was much brighter and typical for the gaudier spirit of time of the 70’s.

My WM diesel model fleet predominantely consists of F 7 units (Genesis) and a lone EMD SD 35 (Atlas):
